The Founders

We, Kersty Whitnall and Birger Maekelburger, partners in life and business, founded DORRIENN in spring 2011 in Berlin. We met in Kersty's home town Melbourne, Australia in 2003 and very soon realised we both shared the passion for creative and distinguished furniture, decorations and architecture. Since September 2009 we have been very lucky to call Berlin our home. By starting DORRIENN, we hope to be able to share some of the unique atmosphere and vibe this city offers.

The Idea

The idea developed when Kersty lived in Münster in 2004 and thereby in Europe for the very first time. The amount and variety of beautiful and distinguished decorations was unknown to her. Just like a good wine, the idea required almost seven years to ripen and grow. Good things come to those who wait or as Birger would phrase it: Was ewig währt, wird endlich gut.

The Name

The name Dorrien has been around in Kersty's family for quite a few generations. Most notably is its occurrence in Kersty's great uncle Reginald Thomas Dorrien Wilmot. The name Dorrien derives from the Greek word doron for gift or present. How well suited! The spelling DORRIENN is a beautiful compromise between the male version Dorrien and its female counterpart Dorrienne. We pronounce it "do-ri-en" by the way.

The Mission

We are continuously on the hunt for beautiful and creative table decorations, trends and themes. We visit trade fares and show rooms to remain up to date at all times. Thereby you can be sure to find a continuously changing selection of exciting and versatile table decorations. So do visit us regularly.
